The Son

The other day I drove back home to Wisconsin from Nebraska. I began the trip at a little before 7:00 and it was really foggy out. For about an hour I could only see a few feet in front of me. I kept wondering if I should stop because it was difficult to see clearly. I drove slowly but kept pressing forward in anticipation that the sun would soon rise and the fog would lift.

The fog did indeed lift. As I drove over a hill I saw the sun rising. It was absolutely breathtaking. As the sun rose the fog seemed to clear. It was no longer difficult to see. In fact, as I looked at the valley below, I realized that I could see for miles.

In that moment everything went from hazy to clear. But, while I could now see the whole valley, I realized that I could not take my eyes off of the sun. There was something about it’s light that drew me in. The valley was beautiful but the sun...the sun was extraordinary!

At that moment in dawned on me that I often don’t stop to really look at the sun. I am so busy looking at all the things around me that the sun shines it light on. I realized then that I am the same with things in my own life. I often am so busy seeing and dealing with the various areas in my life that the Son is shining his light on that I do not stop and bask in the Son.

I want to stare at the Son. I desire to stop and bask in his light. I desire to allow his light to penetrate as I become more conformed to him.

"I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life." John 8:12
