Flexible time...and Beth Moore

One of the blessings of not having a 9 to 5 job this year is that my schedule is quite flexible. This can be a blessing and a curse. :) It is easy to get lazy when one does not have a schedule. On the other hand, it does force oneself to slow down. Because of the abundance of time I do not have an excuse to not do certain things that I often make excuses not to do. Things like exercising, scripture memorization, or extended time in prayer ,journaling, and yes...even blogging. Honestly, I don’t understand why I make excuses not to do these things. In fact, I am usually much happier when I do them and recently that has definitely been the case.

I just finished my first week of a Beth Moore study. I must admit that when it began I was a bit skeptical. Ladies had been talking to me about her for years. I had heard some great things. Previously I had done a partial study with some other women but we only listened to a video once a month and did not do any of the daily homework. I had heard that her studies were quite time consuming and therefore did not readily jump in.

Let me take you back a bit to last November 22. I was alone in my bedroom that night and I had an incredible conversation with Him. It was one of those conversations that I will look back to as a turning point in my life. It was the beginning of a journey that I have been documenting in a weekly journal.

Flash ahead to last week where I decided to work through a Beth Moore Study called “Breaking Free” on my own. (After all, I had the time to do it- even if it was time consuming.) The study seemed to fit with the work that God has recently been doing in me. I did not know what I was getting into but He did! I have learned so much from the lives of four kings of Judah - Uzziah, Jotham, Ahaz, and Hezekiah. These are all stories I have read before but Beth pointed out some amazing points about our God (and me) that are displayed in their lives.

This week I have been learning so much through this study and through memorizing and meditating on scripture. I can hardly wait to see what I am going to have learned by the end of ten weeks.

I guess I can finally say that I am happy that my schedule is somewhat flexible for the time being. :)

I've done "Breaking Free" and also several other Beth Moore books and really enjoyed them. In the fall I will be doing her book, "Esther" with the others women who live here.
