Lamentations

I woke up this morning to sunshine flooding into my room (this would have been rare in China as it is usually not sunny where I lived). I do not fully understand why but sunshine seems to make a person happy. It seems to lighten the spirits. Sunshine seems to bring hope.

Yesterday it was raining and gloomy here in Watertown. Not only was it gloomy outside, but it was also a gloomy day for me personally. I was sad and felt somewhat hopeless.

But this morning, as the sunlight poured in, the gloominess and sadness seemed to disappear. I immediately turned in my favorite book to Lamentations.

"Because of His great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is his faithfulness. I say to myself, 'He is my portion, therefore I will wait for him.' He is good to those who hope in him, to the one who seeks him; it is good to wait quietly for His salvation. It is good for a man to bear the yoke while he is young."

Isn't it amazing that our dear Father's mercies are new every morning! His compassions will never fail. I know this. I have experienced this in my life. He is so faithful!

Later in the passage it says, "Though he brings grief, he will show compassion, so great is his unfailing love. For he does not willingly bring affliction or grief to the children of men."

While it may seem strange to you, I felt His love this morning. I feel it now. I am no longer consumed or stuck in yesterdays state of gloominess, I have hope in Him. He is my portion. He brought me and will continue to bring me sunshine.
