Sick Dog

Boaz is sick. Two nights ago he got into a bag of chocolate cookies and ate three of them. He has been throwing up ever since. I gave up on counting how many times yesterday when it hit 20. Last night I picked him up to comfort him as I sat on my bed. He threw up on the bed and on my computer. He has still been throwing up today. For the past two nights he has not slept. He lays there and whines. This means that I too have not slept. Today, I decided it was time to take him to the vet. (I should have done this yesterday.) This was an interesting experience to say the least.

I have noticed here that doctors and vets often do not like to explain what they are doing. I don't really know what they did to Boaz other than I could see through the glass that they were giving him several shots. I asked them to explain what was happening and the response I received was “狗不能吃巧克力” or "dogs should not eat chocolate." The interesting thing was I probably had five different people telling me this as if I had intentionally given Boaz chocolate to get him sick. Each time I responded that I knew this but he had eaten it without me knowing.

So, I still have no idea what they did. The experience was a bit traumatic for Boaz as he has been hiding under my bed since we got home. But, whatever they did must have helped. He is no longer roaming the house whining. He is now sound asleep. Here's to hoping that both of get a good night sleep tonight!

Oh, Mara. I'm so sorry to hear Boaz was sick! I hope he's better! The chocolate wasn't good, but he may have got a little pancreatitis from the rich cookies, too. And once they start puking, their irritated tummies and throats invoke more puking. Sorry your experience with vets in China wasn't great... it happens here, too.
