Knitting

Did you know that the majority of older women in China know how to knit? They do. You can see women all over the place with their needles and yarn knitting sweaters and scarves while chatting with their friends.

Did you know that even though I have lived in China for eight years I did not know how to knit? Sad isn't it! I would look on at the stuff they were making and think it would be fun to someday sit with them and chat while working on my very own knitting project.

This week that all changed. My new friend Alicia, here in Murrieta, California, taught me how to knit. I am working on my first scarf. You should see all the neat stuff that Alicia makes. She even spins her own yarn. I was impressed!

Yep...they are HUGE needles. What can I say? I am still a newbie. :)

Trying on the work in progress.

Did you know that I really like knitting? This was a bit of a surprise to me. I have found knitting to be rather enjoyable. I hope that someday I will make Alicia proud when I send her a picture of me sitting with my Chinese friends, chatting, and knitting my very own project.

Alicia makes these really cool bags. They are reversible and are a great place to keep the yarn and project safe as it is being worked on.
