Ordinary or Extraordinary??

Last week I went to Beijing. I needed to renew my passport at the American Embassy. As I was sitting in the airport to fly home, I began my people watching hobby. I love to watch people. People are fascinating. Airports for some reason seem to attract many interesting people. Well, as I was sitting there, I noticed people checking out this machine...

To me it looks like an ordinary pop machine right? That's because that is what it is. What I noticed while sitting there was that this machine was not ordinary to most people in the airport. They had never seen one before. They would squeal with delight when they would hear their beverage of choice drop to the bottom of the machine. Many people did not know how to use it and when they figured it out, laughter would erupt. This to me brought a lot of joy to my day. While something may seem ordinary to me, it was extraordinary to others.

As I was sitting there I couldn't help but think that is sometimes how our relationship with our Father is. I have been in a relationship with him for more than 20 years. This relationship at times can seem very ordinary. I am often reminded when a someone new experiences that relationship, just how extraordinary it is. I am so thankful for daily reminders of His extraordinary love for us. These reminders may come from the most ordinary of objects, even one as simple as a pop machine.

People watching at the airport is fun! When I retire someday I want to drive one of those carts at the airport.
