Earthquake

I am sure that many of you have heard about the earthquake in China that killed more than 10,000 people. While I do not live anywhere near the epicenter of the earthquake, we did feel it in the city I am currently living in. It has caused quite a stir here. It took place yesterday afternoon at 2:30. I was at my friends house and I commented that her floor was shaking. She then realized it was an earthquake and we evacuated the building. I had felt the floor move like that before when I was in South America and was not too concerned. However, this was all new to the entire city I live in and people started to freak out. People were afraid to enter their homes last night in fear that another one would take place. So, many people camped out in the courtyard of the apartment complex I live in.

Right after the earthquake took place I went home to check on the lady that cleans my home 3 hours a week (yes, I am fortunate to have someone help clean the floors). She is a dear sister and she had never felt anything like this before. I asked her if she was alright. She said that there was an earthquake in my building. I said I felt it too at a friends house. She looked startled and asked, "You mean there was an earthquake in the whole apartment complex." I smiled and told her it was felt all over the city we live in (at that time we did not know that the epicenter was actually very far away). She looked very surprised at my response. She said that when she felt the quake, she did not know what to do, so she just fell on the floor and asked the Father to protect the building. :)

After the quake, my life went on as normal. I wish I could say the same for the rest of the city. I went downtown to go to a bookstore. The bookstore was closed because of the earthquake. I then decided to go to Starbucks to buy a gift for a friend. That too was closed. I asked around to see what was happening. People were so terrified that another quake would take place and they wanted to be with their families when it happened. It was a wasted trip downtown but it was interesting to see so many people paralyzed by fear.

This morning when I woke up I realized that schools were all canceled today. People were afraid to send their kids to school.

Please be thinking about the country of China right now. People are in a bit of shock. The earthquake caused quite a stir. Please ask the Father that the quake would not only shake people physically, but it would also shake them to the core...to the point where they would desire stability in Him.

Hi Mara. Thanks for the update. I knew that you were not in the epicenter of the quake but did call your Dad to see if he'd heard from you. He had. I have CNN so have been keeping up with the recovery efforts from yesterday's quake. I felt several quakes when I lived in Asia years ago. Once I was sitting at the hospital and suddenly a small blackboard was shaken off the wall and hit my head. It didn't hurt me. May you be able to give comfort to those in need.
Love you. Aunt Carolyn

Hello Mara,
Nice to heard your good news. I am in Taiwan for my vacation. It was like the huge earthquake couple years ago in Taiwan call 921. Let's pray for the people in 四川, may our Father bless their heart and spirit.
